Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-functional team of Electrical, Mechanical, and Systems Engineers in Roy, UT. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Program.

The primary objective of this role is to collaborate across Systems Engineering, System Test, Global Supply Chain, suppliers, and other Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to develop and review Environmental Control System hardware requirements, specifications, designs, trade studies, and analyses for the purpose of supporting incremental system maturity milestones and hardware deliveries. The successful candidate will be comfortable with working in a dynamic people-focused environment and collaborating across multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve organizational goals.

What You Will Get to Do:

- Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose technical requirements, develop complete and verifiable requirements, and conduct trade studies

- Generate and update specifications as part of a Systems Engineering framework for the purpose of releasing to suppliers and supporting the procurement process

- Develop design and analysis artifacts to support design reviews, customer deliverables, and hardware procurement workflows

- Perform heating and cooling calculations to size HVAC equipment

- Select appropriate HVAC equipment to meet size and system requirements

- Review and provide comments to supplier-submitted drawings and contractual deliveries


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree with 10 years of relevant experience; or 8 years with a PhD
  • Active Secret clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • Ability to understand and interpret requirements
  • 10+ years of experience with CAD modeling and product lifecycle management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) tools
  • 10+ years of experience generating engineering drawing packages
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ­Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • ­Experience with Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) system design and verification
  • ICBM Experience
  • Experience with Carrier HAP, Siemens NX, Autodesk Revit, and Siemens Teamcenter software
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes
  • ­Experience with estimation, bidding, proposals, or RFPs
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,000.00 - $208,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
