Bangor International Airport is a Part 139–certified commercial service airport. We are seeking a knowledgeable and safety-focused Fuel Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the airport’s Fuel Farm, pipeline systems, and fuel quality assurance programs.
Position Summary
The Fuel Supervisor is responsible for directing all Fuel Farm operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, maintaining fuel quality standards, supervising personnel, and supporting safe, efficient fuel distribution across airport facilities. This role also supports pipeline operations, environmental compliance, and emergency response activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Supervises receipt, storage, transfer, and documentation of all aviation fuels and ensures safe operating practices.
- Ensure compliance with FAA, DOT, PHMSA, and environmental regulations.
- Manages fuel sampling and testing, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards; coordinates required laboratory analysis.
- Conducts daily fuel inventory and requisitions fuel, supplies, and parts as needed.
- Supervises and performs minor repairs to the corrosion protection system and implements preventative or corrective actions.
- Maintains DOT Evaluator status under PHMSA Operator Qualification regulations and serve as an evaluator for required programs.
- Train, schedule, and evaluate fuel division personnel.
- Oversees inspection, operation, and maintenance of fuel systems, including hydrants, pits, tanks, pipelines, filters, valves, gauges, and related equipment; initiates corrective actions as required.
- Supervises preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of fuel hydrant and pipeline systems; maintains required DOT 49 CFR qualifications.
- Assigns and supervises technicians for major repairs and construction activities.
- Ensures clean, safe, and orderly site conditions across all fuel facilities.
- Responds to spill or system emergencies as a member of the Spill Response Team, ensuring protection of personnel and mitigation of hazards.
- Promotes and enforces safety programs; trains staff on compliance and procedures.
- Assists in Fuel Farm operations during and outside regular hours.
- Complies with the Airport’s Facility Response Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Spill Control and Countermeasures Plan, and other environmental requirements. Supports prevention and mitigation of environmental contamination.
- Collects, documents, and maintains data for all DOT-required testing, reporting, and pipeline compliance. Occasionally assists in designing, installing, or modifying fuel equipment and transfer systems.
- Prepares annual budget requests for the Division and administers the approved budget.
- Trains POL personnel on all aspects of their duties and evaluates performance of staff including technicians and attendants.
- Performs other related duties as assigned with flexibility and innovation.
